In partnership with women's business organizations throughout the United States,   Women Open Network  provides access to a national standard of  Powerful Educational Programs for women business owners,   Women Open Network  hosts Powerful Women in Business events across US: Sharing the Vision of Women in Power and provides information about women's businesses to purchasing managers through an Internet database.

One such standard -- sustainability -- has emerged as the international benchmark for corporate citizenship. It's the measure of an organization's economic, environmental, and social performance. And one of the keys to sustainability is reporting the results -- the act of reporting, if well done, transforms a corporation from high performing to sustainable.

Sustainability reporting was born in the 1990s when several companies, notably GM and Ford, launched the practice of disclosing their environmental performance. Their reasons were good public relation and partly good business practice.

Investors were beginning to realize that there were these large strategic questions about sustainability that affected global firms' financial performance, from their record on human rights to their labor practices to how they expend or conserve resources. Companies, meanwhile, realized they could not build trust or a sense of transparency after a huge crisis like an environmental mishap.

Corporations need to build this, so people don't sense a PR effort to cover up a problem. It is the   Women Open Network  charter to certify the sustainability of corporations and to communicate that to our wide membership and our chapters across US.

The world of corporate affairs is too complicated for everything to be good all the time. In this day and age, a
company that reports only positive information about itself is probably not telling the whole story.   A company
that puts everything it does in the best light possible does not understand what corporate reporting is all
about. It is our role to verify and publish these reports.

By supporting   Women Open Network , corporations are able to build their brand among the woman business owner community, a fiercely loyal consumer group, and grow its bottom line through opportunities to sell and affiliate with our national network of nearly 80,000 women business owners and decision makers.

The idea that a company should conduct its business in ways that benefit not just shareholders but the environment and society, too, is called sustainability, or sustainable development. It's an idea championed by a small but growing number of companies around the globe, it's an idea that is measured and in support of   Women Open Network . Some countries, such as France, South Africa, and the Netherlands, now mandate environmental or social sustainability reporting as a condition to being listed on their stock exchanges.

Women Open Network  offers premier corporate partners a variety of venues and services to reach that market.
